PSI develops new tool for evaluating GIS and eGovernment Development

PSI Group's NEW GIS and eGovernment data

The PSI Group has developed an ancillary assessment tool for providing detailed benchmarking and best practices information on GIS adoption by local governments.

The new assessment looks at current best practices dimensions:

  • Existence of strategic planning and policy
  • Development of enterprise-wide GIS planning and implementation
  • Minutes, documents and other relevant information from committees and implementation groups
  • Presence of relevant contact information for decision-makers, technical staff and stakeholders
  • Policies and standards for data distribution
  • Provision of metadata
  • Presence of online GIS browsers
  • Document management systems for data, metadata, and as-built maps and images
  • Detailed explanations of features, data and their use to educate the various potential users of GIS services
  • Availability of technical support and feedback

The new assessment also tracks the range of data layers being made available by local governments. The following is a preliminary list:
